Mary Jean (Duderstadt) Striedel, 81, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2024. Jean was born November 9, 1942 at 11:30 am in Cuero, TX to Walter and Lucille Duderstadt.
She attended Weesatche School and later graduated from Goliad High School. Go Tigers! After attending Business School, she married Lawrence Striedel on February 16, 1963. She waited at home and worked while he went to Korea and served in the Army. When Lawrence returned home, they began their travels around South Texas following jobs in the oil field. Jean cared for their child, Rusty, who was the best dog ever. Finally, after being stationed in Louisiana, Jean and Lawrence were able to adopt their only daughter, Jessica, in November of 1978. Jean then returned to her beloved Texas with its fluoridated water. She volunteered at school and then at St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she was a member. She worked at the Yorktown Public Library, always saving old books that were going to be thrown away. Jean will be remembered for all her work at the church. She volunteered for almost everything for decades. She passed on to her family her love of helping others, her love for books, and her love for Jesus. She will also be remembered for always having a smile and keeping others in line when then needed it.
After 10 years of struggling with dementia, Jean passed away on Good Friday. Through all her troubles she always chose JOY, which she said stood for "Jesus Our Yes." She was joyfully singing with her Savior this Easter.
Jean is survived by her husband, Lawrence; daughter Jessica (Joe) Sauceda; and grandchildren, Sean, Andy, Isaac, Israel, and Sarah; and sister, Debbie Foster.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents.
Visitation will be 9:00 am-10:00 am Saturday April 13, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown. A memorial service will follow at 10:00 am, with a reception to follow.
