Dennis Ray Saunders Sr.

Dennis Saunders Sr., 73, of Yorktown passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born January 4, 1951 in Yorktown to the late Eli and Pauline Ann Machost Saunders. He married the love of his life Rita Moore on February 7, 2004.

For over 45 years, Dennis dedicated his life to the oilfield in order to provide for his family, and in that time, he genuinely earned his hardworking reputation. When he wasn’t in his hard hat and steel toe boots, you could find him at the coast setting the best trotlines you’ve ever seen, or woodworking in his shop with his best friend, soul mate, his bride, Rita. Dennis’ talent in woodworking was so rare and the love he had in every piece he created truly showed. Whether he was on the rig floor, or in the midst of one of his hobbies, Dennis ALWAYS gave it his all. His children, and now even his grandchildren are a testament to the kind of work ethic he had, as it still lives on through them. Dennis was a man of great faith, strong hands, and an even sharper mind. He was a man that loved his family, and always made sure they knew it, he was companionate and quick to give a helping hand to those in need. Dennis was genuinely one of a kind.

For the last two years Dennis fought long and hard against pancreatic cancer. Through it all he always stayed positive, even though he knew it couldn’t be cured.

He courageously leaves behind his loving wife of 20 years Rita Saunders, children Dennis (Julie) Saunders Jr, Sherrie (Charlie) Johnson, Krystal (JD) Everitt, Kimberlee Saunders, and Christy Lambert. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, brother George (Sandy) Saunders, sisters Bonnie Kellis, Sandy (Odell) Johnson and his twin Dianne (Norvan) Moore.

He is preceded in death by his parents, step-father Pete Waits, son Dustin Shane Saunders, brother David Saunders and sister Shirley Schultz.

Funeral service 2 pm Friday, April 12, 2024 at Massey Funeral Home.
